Treating over 360,000 patients per year, the Mater requires a reliable, sustainable and cost-efficient energy supply to maintain a modern patient care environment.

The hospital is undertaking a major green retrofit of its infrastructure to reduce its carbon footprint and cut its energy and operational costs. The 15 year energy infrastructure project includes the introduction of a new campus-wide heating network and upgraded air conditioning system, the replacement of windows and doors throughout the hospital to reduce heat loss, and the installation of new low energy lighting fixtures.

The Challenge

The move to a greener energy solution is a major project for the Mater Hospital, with a wide range of parties involved - from the project manager, to hospital staff, to the lead contractor and various subcontractors, including electricians, window fitters and carpenters. Co-ordinating this large group would be an unwieldy task if using only email and free file sharing sites. For a better user experience and centralised management of the project, the hospital desired a single collaboration platform.

It was also important that this platform stood alone and did not place additional stress on the hospital’s IT network. This would also ensure that third-party contractors and parties would not have direct access to the hospital’s network - important for data security.
